From her Kings are Born ~ Anhad Kaur Shergill

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮੰਦਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾਨ ॥
So why call her bad? From her, kings are born.
ਭੰਡਹੁ ਹੀ ਭੰਡੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਭੰਡੈ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all.

These words were written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, in the times when a woman had no value. But do we practice this ? Have we reached a state of gender equality?  Have people started accepting girl child in their family or not ?

Gender Equality is one of the severe issues in our current modern society. Till now, women are still incapable of contributing effectively as people don’t consider them equal to men.

Although our spiritual beliefs consider females as a deity, we fail to identify her as a human. In many areas people consider a girl child as a burden many prefer to kill her before she is even born and if she is given birth to then she is not treated equal to boys.  Our culture has created a mindset that son is their saviour.

Majority of parents don’t  think that girls will get success in their lives.  Inspite of people like these there are many who are supporting girl child and are treating girls as equal. Most of the educated part of our society believe in gender equality but still many people exist who consider girls as a burden.

I am my parents only daughter. I don’t have any other siblings and sometimes this thought baffles me that how many people out there don’t want daughter. How they kill them before they are even born

The need of the hour is to raise awareness amongst people and save the girls who don’t even get to open their eyes in this beautiful world.
