Blah, Blah, Rah, Rah By Amy Goldberg

Do you ever feel as if you’re going around in circles? I was at a book store the other day (yes, they still exist). As I picked up a book and started browsing through it I started to laugh, as I realize that I had already read it. It caught me as being really funny, as I wondered how many other people have picked up books that they’re already reading. And then it dawned on me. How many personal development books, podcasts, workshops, retreats, speakers does it take for someone to start taking action and start moving the needle for themselves?

This question is of particular interest to me as I make my living helping others to become their potential. I’m my client’s external eyes and ears providing a more accurate picture of their reality, and yet I’m not their crutch. I’m more of a good swift kick in their butt. Fortunately, they appreciate it (most of the time).

After three decades of helping others here’s what I’ve learned. When it gets right down to it, it’s a fear of, and/or lack of confidence in knowing oneself. More often than not, it’s the not knowing how to move ahead with that “thing” that’s called one’s “calling.” That thing that is SHOUTING out at all of us from the depths of our very soul saying; “PLEASE, I’m begging you to start listening to me. I know what we want. Trust me.”

Since I can remember my mantra has been, “It starts with you.” The reason we get discouraged is because we tend to look in every single direction accept to ourselves to find the answers. Why? Because it can get REALLY uncomfortable. We can go through our entire lives not understanding the single most important and closest person to us …. and that’s US.

I love seeing when things unfold, and people find their sweet spot. It can take years, it can take seconds, it depends upon how in-tune one is with oneself.

For me it took a while. I was always chasing the shining objects flying in my direction. It was exhausting, discouraging, depressing, and caused me great anxiety. I needed to STOP dead in my tracks and say; “ENOUGH.” Once I did, I started moving in a direction that made sense to me. That “thing” that was tugging at me to take notice. Step by step I started to reverse engineer where I wanted to grow.

At the end of the day, and there will be, we owe it to ourselves to connect with who we are and what we gravitate toward. Take yourself off auto-mode and start taking action, even if it’s small steps. Eventually the steps will get bigger. Once you build your confidence through action, then the training wheels will come off and you’ll be riding on your own.

I’m here to say that; “You’ve got this.”
