We are constantly thinking, planning, and obsessing. Did you know that we make 35,000 decisions a day? A day!! We spend a lot of time in our head and tend to forget what grounds us. No wonder the root chakra when blocked can leave us feeling sluggish and stuck. However, when we gain a connection to our root chakra; the first chakra; our grounding chakra, we better connect more soulfully with the earth and with ourselves. This helps to clear our mind for creating space for what inspires us.
Have you ever heard the expressions “Be on firm ground,” or “Getting on your feet again,” or “To lose ground,” even “Getting swept off your feet?” These all convey a closed (or almost closed) root chakra. When your Root chakra is closed too far, you may actually feel that your feet don’t seem to really touch the ground.
Moreover, when the ground disappears, and our feet are no longer planted firmly on the ground it can leave us feeling anxious. This is directly tied to our physical vitality, endurance and mental perseverance. We essentially lose our security.
If the first chakra is unbalanced, inevitably the rest of our chakras become unbalanced. Our first chakra lays the fundamental foundation for our entire system.
Let me ask you this. Do you have a hard time putting your thoughts into action? Are you easily stressed? Are you restless? Are you fearful or constantly worried? These are all signs that your grounding chakra could be out of balance. So what can you do to unblock your chakra?
- Grounding Exercise: Your root chakra connects your body to the earth’s energy. When your energy is blocked you are unable to access the support of the earth and the higher awareness of your spirit. A simple grounding exercise helps to anchor you. Through visualization, first, close your eyes. Now imagine that you are a tree. Visualize roots growing out from your feet and extending into the ground. Feel the sensation of being firmly anchored into the earth.
- Meditation: The one barrier to one not meditating has also come down to time. People think that they need to dedicate a lot of time to meditation. In actual fact, you can meditate anywhere at any time for a few minutes. Meditation that involves bringing attention to your physical body will help to balance your root chakra. Do a body check-in by scanning each body part from head to toe (or toe to head). Become aware of your physical being. Take deep breaths bringing your awareness to what you are doing. When you are grounded you are conscious of yourself, your surroundings and the earth.
- Physical Activity: Your root chakra is tied to your physical energy and vitality. Physical activity helps to remove any accumulation of toxic energy. Shifting your energy from your mental focus to your physical one clears the pathway in your mind and opens up your body’s energy. You will experience a sense of wellbeing when you connect to your physical self. You will achieve this by doing any activity that increases your heart rate.
- Eat Grounding Foods: According to Ayurvedic Medicine, there are grounding foods that you can eat. These include; potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, green beans, eggplant and ginger. Other grounding foods include; avocado, mango, papaya, grapes, olives, berries, coconuts, figs, and melons. In addition, drinks should also be warm and not cold.
- Connect with Nature
Allow your mind to take a break. Let it wander as you are out in nature or on a beach. If you are able to, walk barefoot and feel the sensation of the ground beneath your feet. Daydream. Did you know that some of our best ideas come from daydreaming? Enhance your experience by breathing deeply into your diaphragm. Try and stay in the moment.
As your root chakra provides grounding and support, it will help you to build the foundation for living an inspired and energetic life. Concentrate your energies on the present and direct your attention to your root chakra. Try doing these 5 things to unblock your chakra and watch as you will begin to feel more grounded, secure, and at ease with yourself. You will experience a positive shift in your energy.
