At Disguise Cosmetics, we believe we can create the best quality products without harming any living beings. The best way to do this is to be cruelty free and never test our products on animals. But cruelty free – that’s just the first step! You’re not going all the way if you aren’t vegan too.
It may seem surprising, but a lot of cosmetic products – from shampoo to lipstick, often contain ingredients of animal origin. The only way to be truly cruelty free then is to also be vegan. We’re proud to be one of the first, homegrown PETA approved vegan and cruelty free brands in India.
Aren’t all cosmetics vegan?
Most coloured cosmetics use ingredients like red carmine dye made from beetles, lanolin as an emollient from sheep’s wool, keratin from horns and claws of animals, silk protein by boiling silk worms, and the list goes on. We believe that we can get the same or better results without putting any of these animals in harms way and strive to create only 100% vegan products, always.
Obviously no one tests on animals anymore, right?
Unfortunately some countries like China mandate that cosmetics need to be tested on animals for them to be available for sale. All global companies selling in China thus, have to test their products on animals. We never sell finished products made in China nor do we ever intend to sell in China and so we’re never obligated to do any animal testing. That saves a lot of our furry friends while we ourselves double up as test subjects instead!
Where do I start?
Take small steps and work your way into it! Easy tips and tricks to transition into sustainable and vegan beauty:
- Be conscious when shopping with respect to recyclable packaging
- Read the labels for ingredients and check for logos of vegan, cruelty free, etc.
- Search for dupes or alternatives to non-vegan products and switch them up one at a time
- However, finish your products first or recycle them
- Join online communities or follow Instagram pages that can help you learn more about vegan beauty
While we’re excited about being vegan, we finally put together a short list of what we stay away from so you know exactly what you’re getting, or rather not getting, in every one of our products. Kind to all kinds 😉
